Pineville On The Net is the brainchild of former Pineville Mayor Leo Deslatte, a life-long citizen of Pineville who also happens to own a computer consulting business. Mayor Deslatte felt like Pineville needed to have a presence on the Internet. As Mayor and a business man he wanted to see Pineville grow. And as a computer consultant, he understood the importance of the Internet in attracting new industry to the area.

So Pineville On The Net was born in 1997, first as a subdomain on a local Internet Service Provider's web page, and then in December it acquired it's own domain: http://www.pineville.net

The idea was to have a place to showcase Pineville, tell about its city government and promote Pineville to the millions of people who "surf" the 'Net every day. Pineville On The Net also provides a place for Pineville businesses to advertise on the Internet in the context of a "community" instead of out on the "open seas" of the Internet.

One of the ideas Mayor Leo had when he started Pineville On The Net was to provide a place for Churches and Non-Profit organizations to have a web-site free of charge. Some of these may already have a web page so Pineville On The Net will provide a link to them.
