About Pineville
On March 4, 1878 Pineville was granted a charter of corporation by the state of Louisiana and according to the 1880 Census, the City of Pineville had a population of 763. Today this bustling hamlet boasts a population of nearly 15,000. The total area of Pineville proper is 13.12 square miles and the average elevation is 118 feet above sea level. The geographic coordinates of the City’s center is 31° 10’ 20” N, 92° 24’ 45” W.
Pineville serves as the business and retail center for a number of surrounding communities such as Ball, Bentley, Big Island, Buckeye, Centerpoint, Creola, Deville, Fishville, Holloway, Kolin, Libuse, Paradise, Pollock, Prospect, Ruby, Simms, Timber Trails, Tioga, and Wardville. Pineville has a variety of shopping centers, national chain retail stores, locally owned businesses, banks, medical facilities, hotels and places of worship to serve its residents and visitors. Pineville is home to several large non-government employers including Baker Manufacturing, Calvary Industries, Crest Operations, Electic Products, Hayes Manufacturing, McFarland Cascade, PlastiPak Packaging, PQ Corporation, and Procter & Gamble Manufacturing. The Central Louisiana Electric Company (CLECO) corporate headquarters is also located in Pineville. |
There are two industrial sites on the edge of Pineville’s corporate limits and in and around the city are two municipal airports, one regional airport and an international airport. Kansas City Southern operates a rail line through the city and along the opposite bank of the Red River, from Pineville, is one of the largest inland river ports in the country. Alexandria Veterans Administration Medical Center are all located in Pineville, as well as many private medical, eye, and dental clinics. The Rapides Regional Medical Center and CHRISTUS St Frances Cabrini Hospital both have satellite operations in the City of Pineville with their main campuses just across the river.
The City of Pineville has three elementary schools, one junior high, one high school, and a college within its corporate limits to serve its citizens. Within the communities the city serves there are several other elementary schools, three junior highs and three high schools.

Located adjacent to the city is Camp Beauregard. Operated by the Louisiana Army National Guard (LANG), this 12,500 acre site is the headquarters of the 225th Engineer Brigade, which is one of the largest engineering units in the U.S. Army. Camp Beauregard serves as the primary annual training and pre-mobilization training platform for the LANG and is a staging base for various emergency response agencies during times of State and Federal emergencies. |
The City of Pineville is governed by a Mayor and five City Council members elected from their respective districts. The City Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The Mayor of Pineville is Rich Dupree.
