The City of Pineville is pleased to be selected as one of the stops for the annual tour of the KCS Holiday Express; every 4-years this train comes to Pineville. This special train will be in Pineville on Saturday, December 2, 2023, starting at 4:00 pm. The tour of the train is FREE and it will be open till the last person gets on board. The Holiday Express will be stationed at the railroad crossing just outside the entrance to the Louisiana Christian University Baseball Field, located at 910 Melrose Street.
The six-car train with Santa Claus and his elves is stopping in 22 communities in six states over a 26 day period. Led by the KCS' Southern Belle business train, the Holiday Express includes a smiling tankcar ... "Rudy"; a flatcar carrying Santa's sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a gingerbread boxcar; the elves' workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose.
The Holiday Express was built on the tradition of the Santa Train, which ran on a segment of the network purchased by KCS in 1997. In 2000, KCS employees noticed that the Santa Train was the only Christmas some kids had, and that some did not even have essential items like coats, hats and gloves. KCS employees were so touched that they committed to elevating the project. This year, a total of $172,500 in gift cards will be distributed to Salvation Army stops along the route.
